<aside> The Leibniz Association

The Leibniz Association brings together 96 non-university research institutes. Its researchers investigate the socially, economically and environmentally relevant questions of our age. The disciplinary focus ranges from natural, engineering and environmental sciences to economics, social science, and the humanities. With around 140 research infrastructure facilities, including laboratories, observatories and libraries, the Leibniz Association enables excellent research and exchange of expertise.

Leibniz Institutes often develop solutions to major challenges facing society in inter- and transdisciplinary teams. They collaborate closely with other Leibniz institutions, with partners from science and with societal actors at home and abroad. Furthermore, a special focus is placed on technologically relevant research and active technology transfer: Leibniz Institutes bring innovative developments into targeted application and promote the implementation of new technologies in society through cooperation with business and industry. Beyond that share Leibniz researchers their scientific findings, prepare them for the general public and provide advice to policymakers and industry. Participative formats provide opportunities for interaction between researchers and the general public.

The scientific findings of the Leibniz Institutes are of national importance, so the institutes are jointly funded by the federal and state governments. Independent, transparent evaluations ensure the high quality of the research carried out within the Leibniz Association. Evaluations generally take place every seven years.
