<aside> The Leibniz Association
The Leibniz Association brings together 96 research institutes. Its researchers investigate the socially, economically and environmentally relevant questions of our age. They cover a broad range of disciplines – from natural, engineering and environmental sciences to economics, regional and social science, life sciences and humanities. With around 140 research infrastructure facilities, including laboratories, observatories and libraries, the Leibniz Association enables excellent research and contributes to the exchange of expertise.
Leibniz Institutes often develop solutions to major challenges facing society in inter- and transdisciplinary teams. They collaborate closely with other Leibniz Institutes, with partners from science and industry, and with societal actors at home and abroad. Leibniz researchers share their scientific findings, interpret them for the general public and provide advice to policymakers, industry and society. This dialogue-based knowledge transfer is particularly evident in the eight Leibniz Research Museums. Here, participative formats open up opportunities for exchange between research and the general public.
The scientific findings of the Leibniz Institutes are of national importance, so the institutes are jointly funded by the federal and state governments. Independent, transparent evaluations ensure the high quality of the research carried out within the Leibniz Association. Evaluations generally take place every seven years at the latest.
